Wake Up and Say……

Wake up each morning and say “thank you” This concept sounds pretty simple, right? I think it does and it really is pretty simple. Although there was a time when I didn’t think it was so simple!
I can remember a time when I would wake up and actually seek out things to be upset about. I was not a drama seeker but I was a bit of a negative Nellie; always thinking today is the day the sky will fall! And so I went on this way for many years.
Then my life changed and I was headed on a new course. I was about to begin a journey on a path that I never really saw myself on. But I am glad the detour happened! Today I’m a bit of an optimist to say the least. I spend my days thinking of new ways to encourage others, mostly through my words. I have a passion for service and have found a way to be of service every day regardless of where I am. You may ask how, and I will tell you, through encouragement and prayer. These are two things I can do any time/anywhere. I just need to be open to the opportunities as they appear. And to that end I pray each day for my eyes and ears to be open so that I will recognize the opportunities as they present themselves.

As the years have passed it has become a goal of mine to help others learn to live a more grateful life. So I share, among other things, how to be thankful when we wake in the morning and how important it is to take the first 10-15 minutes (after we are dressed) to spend some time being inspired. To me it is important to take these few minutes before I start my day to surround myself with some positive inspiration. I will share with you what it is that I do each morning to get inspired!

After I have dressed I get a cup of coffee and go to my sun-room where I have several sheets of paper with names on them; names of loved ones, names of world leaders, names of friends, I also have my bible. I light a candle and say a prayer; I like to say good morning to God! Then I take one sheet at a time and pray over the name after which I hold the bible (closed) and feel the pages in quiet contemplation until my fingers rest upon a certain page, then I open it. I look at the page, sometimes I look to the scripture number in the upper right corner, sometimes I look around the page until my eyes rest on a certain verse. It just depends, it is always different. I then write the verse, that my eyes fall upon, on the page I am praying over. I love doing this for three reasons, first and foremost because I am taking the opportunity to pray for this person(s), second it submerges me in the Word and I’m nourished by that, third I’m surrounded by inspirational words for over an hour each morning. I know I said 10-15 minutes, this is just what I do. I am just sharing. I always end my prayer session with a page that is titled “What Do You Want Me to Know Today?” and I follow the same procedure. I always do me last. And almost every time the verse that I’m led to is very intuitive. Very intuitive indeed!!

This is what I do and it is a blessing every day. I make sure to wake up early if I know I have to be somewhere that day, because I do not want to cut my time short!

If you do not have the time, or the inclination, to do something like this… here are a few more suggestions to get your day started on the right foot!

1) Listen to your favorite music (not any hard-core stuff-music that feeds your soul)
2) Listen to an audio recording from your favorite inspirational/motivational speaker
3) Read a passage from your favorite inspirational/motivational book
4) Repeat your favorite affirmations
5) Read your favorite scripture or just read your bible

You get the idea! Surrounding yourself with inspirational and positive things first thing in the morning, before you listen to or watch the news,or anything else, is a great way to start your day on a positive note! And if you do this for 21 days in a row it will become a habit that you will not want to do without! And it will make a positive difference in your life! I dare you to prove me wrong!
