Could YOU do this?

To forgive is to remove the chains that bind us. Forgiving others….. it is for US!! Yes, it may help the person you forgive, but it is for  you.

Once you are able to forgive, the healing can begin. When we pray, when we forgive, a window of opportunity opens, an opportunity for God to start the healing process.

Below is a link to a story about one of the ultimate acts of forgiveness. A father forgives the man, not just any man, but the son-in-law that he loved as his own son! What did the son-in-law do that needed forgiveness? He murdered this man’s daughter and grand-daughter.  In the same story they report on the people who can’t forgive. But concentrate on the one who can, who does.  It is his example that I want to think about, it is his forgiveness that I want to remember from this terrible tragic story.

Read for yourself here.

Tell me what you think…could YOU do what this father did?

  1. We never know how we will react in any given situation until it happens and in all honesty, I don’t know what I would do. Our natural reaction as a flawed human being would be to feel hatred and get revenge. However, the right thing to do would be to forgive as our Father forgives us. I hope that if I ever am in such a situation, I would be led by God and be able to forgive.

    • I agree… that is all we can do.

I was once in a situation, which I do not talk about much due to my children’s privacy……..but this situation was one in which I found myself reacting with a blind panic!! Like a protective mama bear in full anger! And I thank God every day that there were no fire arms within reach. I hate to say that…but it is fact. After something so tragic happens….you have cause to wonder, what would have happened if there were a gun within reach. ( and NO, I am not making a statement against firearms)

Point is, I like to think I am a very different person today than I was all those years ago!
I like to think that if faced with the same situation it would not matter if there were guns….I would never doubt myself. I would know with certainty that I would not consider this method to deal with my pain.
I don’t know. I am a different person than I was then…..but as you say, we can’t know for sure until we are faced with the situation.

And yes, I have forgiven. And so has my child, although I do believe she still has work to be done in that area. The person who inflicted that pain has been forgiven and is gone from our lives. And we have moved on. Did it happen overnight? No! But it has happened.

Thank you for your comment! Sorry for the very long reply!!
I so appreciate your being here!
      Peace and Love~

      • It’s great that we can share our thoughts with other people. This world is so full of hate and violence and we are faced with many decisions every day, some are extremely difficult. We just have to have faith and believe that God will help us make the right choices. Thanks.
