Lately I’ve noticed, even more than usual, people saying things they are not backing up with their actions. Some of these people are self-proclaimed Christians. I am a Christian. This is not a rant about Christians. I am only pointing it out because it is relevant to this post.
IF you say you are a certain type of person you need to back that up with the way you act, the way you treat others. I wonder at times what people think when they post on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. I know some people who will tear a person up over a difference in opinion and then in the next post they are talking about being kind to others. Strange and confusing.
The thing is, this goes beyond just inconsistent and confusing! There are people out there watching YOU, they are full of doubts, fear, sometimes anger in regards to religion and Christians. Because of this they are watching and paying attention to what you do and say. When they see you always posting about Jesus, kindness, love, forgiveness, etc…and then you randomly join in on “controversial” posts or you take part in mean-spirited posts, what are they supposed to think? You know what they will think. They will think all Christians are hypocrites. Why? Because they are fragile, teetering on a wall of doubt and you are pushing them over the edge. And worse yet, new Christians may be watching you, and if you think they aren’t then think again!
God’s word says we are to ” love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12
And what does God say about Hypocrisy? “If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.” John 4:20
Not everyone reads the bible, not everyone knows God or Know Him the way we do! It is important that we pay attention to the way we conduct ourselves for those people. We are a walking advertisement for God. So, how do you think your advertisement reads? Are you leading others to a kinder, gentler,Godly life? OR are you chasing them far, far, away? Solidifying their thoughts that religion and all its trappings is a bunch of hypocrisy?
Trust me when I say, I struggle with this, as we all do! I just think, today, I saw a few examples of some people who may not be trying quite as hard as the rest of us!
